What's in store for 2017?

We've had a quick look around to see what's happening in the world of sailing this year, from shows to new boats, just to whet your appetite.
Here's our pick from the dozens of new models that have been announced for this year and a couple of other items of interest.
Aston Martin AM37
If we're lucky, this will be on sale this year.
Stylish, fast and custom built for each customer, the AM37 was launched as planned in Monaco in September but we've not been able to find a date when it'll go on sale. Perhaps it's one of those things where if you have to ask, you won't be able to afford it!

Discovery 48
Push-button sailing? This new 15m version of the Discovery 55 will have electric winches, self-tacking jibs and in-mast reefing, making it a dream to sail - prices are reckoned to be from £730,000 up.

Oceanis Yacht 62
The latest model in the new range of bigger and more luxurious sailboats from Benetau - so new that (at the time of writing) it's not even on the company's website.

Cameras
We think there'll be more on-board cameras on boats this year. They've become popular on the road but there's a place for them on boats too - for manoeuvring and docking, keeping an eye on skiers and other water toy users, that sort of thing.
Nautique are just one of the companies offering this for 2017.
Notable boats
Attracting attention from the book world as well as the nautical world is "Notable Boats: Forty Small Craft, Forty Great Adventures" by Nic Compton. The perfect armchair adventure travel read, it's full of intricate drawings of each boat with it's story - from Kon Tiki to the African Queen with many others between - a beautifully put together hardback. If someone didn't get it for you for Christmas, pick it up from Amazon or your local bookseller.
