7 gadget & accessory ideas at pocket money prices

Everyone seems to love gadgets these days but they can be expensive. We've scoured the internet for seven great ideas for gadget lovers that cost less than ten pounds (let's be honest, we're too old to know what pocket money is these days).

Some of these are gadgets themselves, others are accessories for existing gadgets and a few are just plain daft but we thought they'd appeal to people who like gadgets. We've linked to shops where you can buy each one but there's no recommendation in that, feel free to buy them from wherever you want.

Star Wars Lightsaber Heat Change Mug

We thought we'd start with a fun one. With the new Star Wars film on the horizon this is a must. What does it do? Well, it's a mug with lightsabers on it that change colour when it gets hot. Simple, eh?

Grip strip

These really are useful and Firebox have them at £6.99 or £17.99 for a pack of three. The anti-slip pads are sticky without actually being sticky, if that makes sense. They're mostly used in cars - just stick them to the dashboard then it'll keep phones and other items firmly in place. Apparently.

Firebox

Self Stirring Mug

We can't decide if this is actually useful or not - the site bills it as "a self stirring mug for plain lazy people". You just flick the switch on the top of the handle and away it goes; by the look of the reviews it's often bought as a joke but ends up being used!

Prezzybox

Pocket Power Bank

This one's actually useful and looks cool too. It's a small power bank - a battery that you keep charged, then when your phone runs out of charge you can boost it from the power bank. Just squeezes under the tenner mark at £9.99.

Jack Rabbit Headphone Splitter

An excellent accessory this - it allows you to share your music with a friend without having to have one earpiece each. If you don't think the person you're buying for will like the Jack Rabbit version there's an Owl alternative but to be honesty we found that one a bit sinister.

Prezzybox

Key Ring Charging Cable

Ok, we really like this - it's neat and useful - although it's for Apple devices with Lightning connectors only. It's a key ring with a holder loop that's actually a USB cable. So as long as you have your keys with you (and you never forget those, do you?) then you'll always have a cable.

CarBot USB Power Splitter

To finish on here's something that useful and plain ridiculous at the same time. USB chargers that plug into your car's cigar lighter socket are very handy and this one has two sockets, so that you can charge two things at once. Great - and for the ridiculous aspect it comes in the shape of a robot friend!
