With countless new design ideas hitting stores this Spring, how can you know which trends are here to stay? We’ve identified the top three most-talked-about trends and are sharing a few finishing touches that will bring the essence of each look into your home.

Trend 1 - Greenery

Ever since colour forecasters Pantone announced that their colour of the year for 2017 was Greenery, interior design magazines, websites and stores have gone crazy for the colour. It’s a bright zesty hue, which makes it ideal for Spring and will freshen up any neutral interior scheme. But you don’t have to go all-out with bold green walls and patterned lime wallpaper; just a textured throw and a couple of colourful cushions adds a dash of the trend to your bedroom or living room. House plants have been increasing in popularity over the past couple of years and are also a great way to introduce this green tone into your home. Position a couple of succulents or pot plants around your room to tie together your Greenery theme.

Trend 2 - Reflections

This trend brings a bright and breezy effect into your home – ideal for blowing the cobwebs away after the long, dark winter. The colour palette for this interior design theme is white, soft grey, muted pastels and dusky blues, all of which add an open, airy feeling to rooms. Materials need to be reflective and allow light to pass through or bounce around, so add glossy furniture, mirrors, glass vases and open weaves. Soft furnishings are delicately textured with a slight sheen, such as velvet or silk. A great way to include the reflections trend in your home is to introduce some art work to your walls with abstract images in painterly pastels and watercolour images of reflective scenes.

Trend 3 - Heritage

The heritage trend isn’t quite as old-fashioned or antique-filled as you might think. It’s actually more about hand-me-down items that have been given to you by family members, whether that’s an old oil painting that has been in the family for years, or something as modern as an 80s teak sideboard. Design classics from the mid-century era feature heavily in this look and the mixture of old and new is key to achieving this look. Displaying favourite childhood items such as retro toys and 35mm film cameras adds familiarity and warmth to fresh modern storage systems and industrial finishes. Pieces should be carefully curated for a minimalist look so that the room doesn’t appear cluttered. The walls should be kept pale and neutral or painted in moody dark hues to allow the objects on display to take centre stage.

We hope this has helped inspire you, and remember to have fun with your decorating adventures!
