Lowdhams celebrates 50 years of service to caravanners
Chris Hogan, 3rd March 2016, Caravan
Family firm Lowdhams is now one of the biggest caravan and motorhome dealers in the UK, with showrooms and workshops in Nottingham and Huddersfield. The business is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016 and wants all caravanners to enjoy it too.
The company was started by George Crafts, the father of current chairman Roger in Lowdham, a village near Nottingham. Roger says that his father started the business to bring to caravan sales the same level of professionalism as car sales operations and it definitely paid off.
Over the first couple of decades the company added more marques to its range and moved to larger premises when it acquired Midland Counties Caravans in 1986. Ten years later motorhomes were added to the range and the business moved again, this time to Gunthorpe, a few miles away, with the second branch being opened in Huddersfield in 2002.
Success factors
Lowdhams believes its success is built on customer service but the sheer size of the operation and what's on offer must play a significant part in the attraction too. In Nottingham there's 26 acres of new and used 'vans and campers and all the accessories you could ever think of. You can even pitch overnight on their own site when you visit.
As well as sales there's a fully fitted service centre and parts operation, including registered gas technicians, joiners, electricians and plumbing and heating specialists. There's a CaSSOA Gold storage facility too.
The Huddersfield site is just as well equipped and both sites have coffee shops with tea and snacks including hot food. If you can get hold of one of Lowdhams' supplements, going out in caravan magazines at the moment, there's a coupon for free coffee and cake for two.
So what's happening this year?
Lowdhams is getting out and about throughout the year and will be at all the major shows. The dealership is also renowned for its own events, like the annual Novemberfest weekend - last year it was Wild West themed, in 2014 it was based on German beer festivals, with an oom-pah band!
Live music, food and camping are available and the events raise money for charity. But more importantly all the new season 'vans are there to check out, with exclusive manufacturer offers too.
Birthday offers
There are other anniversary offers going on all year too and the best way to keep up with them is to sign up for the regular email newsletters at the website. The company is embracing new technology and you can browse 'vans on sale and book services as well as find out the deals on offer.
We hope Lowdhams enjoys 2016 and that all our readers have a great touring summer too.
