How do shared office spaces work?

The way we work is completely shifting and flexible working is becoming the norm, rather than the exception to the rule. Luckily, workspaces are growing to meet that demand and there's now a plethora of shared working spaces on offer.

Shared office spaces work with your schedule, so you won't have to clock in 9-5, instead they offer a productive workspace where you'll get your own desk with a group of others. In fact, Tech Start Up Founders Blog Rocketspace estimates 'nearly 1.2 million people worldwide will have worked in a co-working space by the end of 2017'.

What is the rent like and where can you find a shared office space in your area?

As it's flexible, there are plenty of different rental options you can look at when choosing your shared office space and WeWork (wework.com) are a company who are on a mission to do things differently. They run trendy shared workspaces around the globe in great locations and users can pay for what they require.

For example; their latest office in London's Hammersmith will cost £400 per month for a hot desk, £480 per month for a dedicated desk and £800 per month for a dedicated office.

What are the benefits of a shared office space?

The benefits of a shared office space are wide ranging, namely, offering a quiet, clean, space for you to get on with running your business.

Look for office spaces with speedy WiFi, shared kitchens (usually with free refreshments), private areas to make calls and have meetings and, importantly working printers.

The community aspect of the shared office space is key and you'll meet all kinds of different creative minds working together in one place, which can certainly increase productivity and ideas. Companies like WeWork even have wellness covered and offer yoga classes and showers in some of their locations.

What are the negatives of a shared office space?

Cost is the biggest downside of a shared office space, as if you find you're not going in often enough, it can soon become financially inviable. It is also worth bearing in mind that a shared office space may have more people coming and going than a traditional office space, so distraction can be a problem.
