Every now and then we feature plans to launch a boat or yacht from a major luxury car manufacturer, but they rarely see the light of day. This one might be different ....

The new entrant to the luxury car-boat market is Lexus, Toyota's upmarket executive brand.
Bigger and faster
The Lexus Sport Yacht, a 65-foot luxury yacht, was introduced as a concept just over a year ago and plans to launch a production version are apparently well advanced. It will be larger and more powerful than the concept, 13 feet longer and seating 15 rather than 8 people.
The power will be TWO 5 litre V8 engines of the kind found in the new RC F Coupe, as opposed to the single engine of the concept.
The hull, superstructure and inner structure of the concept were produced in using a hand-laid carbon-fibre fabric that had been infused with a two-part polyurethane resin. This composite material, according to Lexus, was significantly lighter than the more usual glass fibre.
Construction
The Sport Yacht will be engineered by Toyota's existing Marine Division with design from Lexus. It will incorporate the sort of advanced electronic interfaces for entertainment and smartphone integration that we're used to seeing in the latest cars.
Manufacture, as is common with car-branded yachts, will be handled by an existing specialist boat builder, in this case Wisconsin-based Marquis-Larson.
Will we ever see it?
Just like other announcements concerning car-branded yachts there is a question-mark over whether the boats will ever go on sale. Jaguar, Aston Martin, Porsche and Bugatti have all announced high-end boats in recent years that are yet to see the light of day, as far as we know.
But Lexus has confidently announced that the new Super Yacht will go on sale in the US late in 2019. A price hasn't yet been announced, but it's unlikely to be cheap.
